This year's series of lectures for high school graduates entering the TMU Biology course inspired participants to write two wonderful English haiku poems about mushrooms. The exercise was creative and intellectually stimulating (知的に刺激的な), showing that integrating (統合する) biology, art, and English can be enjoyable.

Drawing inspiration (インスピレーションを得るために) from a haiku by Kobayashi Issa (小林一茶):

うつくしや

あら美しや

毒きのこ

two groups wrote their own responses. The result was a pair of thoughtful and beautiful poems that reflected not only scientific curiosity (科学的な好奇心) but also artistic talents (芸術的才能) of our first-year students. Well done, guys!
