Do trees communicate? Yes, they do. Can they talk? No, they do not speak any humanly recognized language. Trees use underground networks, also known as the “wood wide web”. They are linked by mycorrhizal fungi that act like living cables, sharing nutrients, sending chemical signals, and even supporting weaker or younger trees. For example, when pests attack a tree, it can send warning signals through this hidden “Internet” of forests, so nearby trees boost their defenses. Trees are our friends.
