Why Plants Make Caffeine, Nicotine, and Other Chemicals

Plants make natural chemicals such as caffeine and nicotine to help them survive. Some chemicals protect plants by repelling insects and animals. Others help attract bees and other pollinators or allow plants to communicate with nearby plants when they are in danger. Humans also use these chemicals. For example, caffeine is found in coffee and tea to help people feel more awake, and nicotine has been used in some medicines and insecticides.

bitter leaves murmur,

caffeine wakes, nicotine guards,

don’t drink, do not smoke…
