Why Some Animals Sleep 30 Minutes and Others 20 Hours
Why do some animals sleep for only 30 minutes a day, while others sleep for 20 hours? The answer depends on their bodies, food, and environment. For example, giraffes sleep for only a few hours a day. They need to stay alert because lions and other predators may attack them. In contrast, koalas can sleep for up to 20 hours a day. Their main food, eucalyptus leaves, provides little energy and is difficult to digest. Sleeping for a long time helps them save energy. Animals have different sleeping habits because they have different needs. Their size, diet, and risk of being attacked affect how long they sleep.
In nature, sleep is an important means of survival.
