8 June UNESCO – World Oceans Day
Historically, there are four named oceans: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic. However, the Southern (Antarctic) ocean is considered to be the fifth one these days. The Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans are the most commonly known.
6月8日は、ユネスコが定めた「世界海洋デー」です。歴史的には、大西洋、太平洋、インド洋、北極海の4つの海が名づけられています。ただし、最近は南極海が5つ目とされています。一般的に知られているのは、太平洋、大西洋、インド洋の3つです。

HAIKU
The rules are simple: 5-7-5, there is no seasonal reference word (a kigo), but your poem must relate to either biology or the topic of the month, and you are writing in English.
ルールは簡単。五・七・五、季語はなくてもよいけれど、生物学かその月の話題に関連した句であること、そして英語で詠むことです。

Seen from outer space
Home to millions of species
Supreme coral reefs
宇宙から見たら
数百万種の生物が生息する
至高の珊瑚礁

IKEBANA
When the days are getting warmer, we want to refresh. In nature, plants look green because they absorb red light most efficiently and the green light is reflected. Oceans’ blue water and green vegetation make us feel revitalized during hot days. In art, green, blue, violet, or purple are called cold colors. They make us feel cool, and some people even think that these colors are “cool.”
日中が暖かくなってくると、リフレッシュしたくなりますね。自然界では、植物が緑色に見えるのは、赤い光を最も効率よく吸収し、緑の光を反射させるからです。海の青い水と緑の植物は、暑い日に元気を与えてくれます。美術では、緑、青、紫、紫などを寒色系と呼びます。涼しさを演出し、これらの色を「クール(かっこいい)」と思う人もいます。
