Summer 2024

Topics for this summer
<Summer intensive courses>
[Parvin Shahrestani - Associate Professor, California State University, Fullerton]
Course title : Biology of Aging
In this interactive course on the biology of aging, students delved into evolutionary theories of aging. Initially hesitant, they quickly found their voices, transforming our small classroom into a dynamic space for discussion. By the end of the week, students confidently shared their insights in a fishbowl setting, showcasing their growth and understanding of complex concepts. Teaching at TMU was a rewarding and wonderful opportunity for me, and it was inspiring to witness the students’ enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity as they tackled challenging material and fostered a collaborative learning environment.

<Stephen R Lindemann - Assistant Professor of Food Science and Nutrition Science, Purdue University>
Course title : Fermentation Microbiology

<Science Café - September>
On September 13, the 5th Science Café was held at a cafeteria near the university. The presenter this time was John Paul Matthew Guzman, a Master student at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. He talked about his research on feeding lactic acid bacteria to shrimp. Faculty members from TMU as well as local residents and his peers at TUMSAT engaged in a lively question-and-answer session. After the presentation, a shrimp dish was served in honor of the theme.
